Complex business issues, economic turmoil and shareholder dissatisfaction have increased the pressure on CEOs and their boards to dramatically improve performance and create value for shareholders.
Strong CEO leadership and corporate governance are the two fundamental building blocks for achieving and sustaining exceptional corporate performance. Directors and CEOs must work closely together and continuously improve their skills, processes and implementation. Maintaining status quo in a rapidly changing business environment is no longer a viable option.
Continuous improvement is the direct result of active learning: reflecting on what you did, the results and what you would do differently next time. Learning is a lifelong journey for successful people. When learning ceases, stagnation sets in resulting in mediocrity.
Attaining the level of CEO or corporate director does not mitigate the need to continuously learn. Sometimes, however, things are moving so fast that it becomes hard to find quiet time to reflect and synthesize your learnings.
